Hypertension and diabetes occur most often together. It seems that there are relationships between them.

Both high blood pressure and diabetes can worsen each other’s symptoms. There is overlapping of risk factors and treatment of both conditions.

Identification:

Blood sugar levels can be measured by blood glucose testing kits. Blood pressure can be measured by a blood pressure monitor.

Hypertension:

Mild 140–159 90–99

Moderate 160–179 100–109

Severe 180 & above 110 & above

Diabetes:

Diabetes is confirmed when there are

· Levels of glucose in a random sample of plasma or 2 hours after intake of 75g of glucose=11.1mmol/l(200mg/dl) or above or

· Fasting glucose levels in plasma 7mol/l(126mg/dl) or above.
